Leg 4 started with a well-established tradition of optimistic buoyancy in G-Force camp. However when we taking photos at the special stage viewer's point wondering why Boris and Roman haven't passed us yet, we received a phonecall from Dan Schchemel, Boris's co-driver. He told us that they rolled the car off a dune. They were waiting for some help when they saw Roman Briskindov approaching and then jumping and halting all of a sudden. Turned out that Roman's landing wasn't too successful and he didn't feel well. The teams called a helicopter which took Roman to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed him wit a crack in tailbone and strongly recommended not to race for next few weeks. So Roman has finished the race while we'll see Boris at tomorrow's start!
Current leaders of the event are Peterhansel in the first, Novitskiy i the second and Schchlesser in the third place. Tomorrow's the last decisive day which will define the true sand masters.

Leg 1
We wrote about what effort it took the team to get here from Italy with the events being so close together…. all the paperwork, flying the cars out, shipping the T5 service truck, renting the chase cars… And it all looked to be over just for 4km. Peterhansel called it “beginners mistake” but it was an unseen and unwritten in the road book sharp blind kink.

It took a lot to get to Abu Dhabi so soon after winning the opening round in Italy. The cars were flown in, the T5 service truck was shipped and the team came from different places in Europe... so, after a pile of paperwork for customs, visas and scrutineering... where the officials were a little annoyed that the cars were too dirty to read the serial numbers (no time even to clean them properly) we got to the Prologue and the drivers finally got to do what the came here for; Racing!

For 2011 two championships, the short two-day Baja and the much longer desert cross-country Rally Raids have been merged together to make the rather long-winded FIA World Cup for Cross Country Bajas. It might not be implicitly implied in the name but this can be thought of as a mini Dakar series and several big names were at last weekend’s season opening Italian Baja… the Dakar legend Jean-Louis Schlesser in his self-built buggy, the reigning Cross Country Champion Leonid Novitski and German Mathias Kahle in the stunning new SAM Mercedes 35CC, fresh from Dakar victory in the Buggy class.

The first Special Stage of Baja Portugal has concluded. The weather forecasts were proved right. Heavy shower started exactly minutes before the start. As a result almost all leaders competed in their effort NOT to win the Super Special Stage as no one wanted to be the first at the muddy Special Stage tomorrow.

Due to some technical reasons the website news haven’t been updated since the Silk Way but it’s better late than never. We would like to sum up the results and our impressions from the Silk Way in a few words.

Silk Way Rally held in Russia on September 11 - 18 is the next competition in G-Force team calendar. "The crews on board the cars and the trucks of this year’s race will drive from Saint-Petersburg to Sotchi, i.e. a route of nearly 4,000 km. This 8-day rally will take them through various types of terrain combining difficulties for drivers and navigators alike. The Silk Way Rally will definitely be a new resistance challenge in 2010. While discovering the landscapes of Northern Russia, the sandy massifs of Kalmykia or the Caucasian reliefs at the end of the rally, the crews will have to maintain a high level of performance during the whole race" - this is how the organisers present the event.
G-Force will participate in the race with the three crews and each of them has their own aims and goals for the competition. Boris Gadasin's crew has the task to test their car and see how strong rivals will they be against their rivals the Volkswagen team. He promises not to hold anything back and won't drive conservatively just to make the finish as the main aim is to prove the speed and capability of the G-Force Proto. The ambition of the second crew (Bogdan Novitskiy) is to finish first after Volkswagen crews i.e. to try and become the best of the privateers. The third team - Alexey Sergeev and Alexey Korotayev are competing in the new-built G-Force Proto. They are new in rally-raids and they are willing to gain new experience in rally raids and obtain extensive racing experience.
Today the participants passed through administrative checks and scruteneering. After the checks the organisers pubslished the starting list for tomorrow. There will be 43 cars and 16 trucks startiting tomorrow at the Palace square in the heart of Saint Petersburg. By decision of the organising committee Boris Gadasin and Bogdan novitskiy were classidfed as ASO priority drivers!
Let's root for the team!
